PostSubject: Black N Cream Polo GTI - Another Set Of Wheels :)   Mon 08 Mar 2010, 9:57 am

hey guys, cudnt see that i had put a build thread up on here so i thought id show u how to do things Razz

i bought my polo about 18 months ago, it was completely standard and wasnt very well looked after either. about 4 days after owning it it broke down Sad but got her up n running agen thank god! and all seems well now.

ive fitted fk sport edition pro's to drop her down on, these have adjustable damping too so i can rock low with no scrubbin, altho it does get a little bouncy!
also had a stainless steal cat back system put on her with a hidden tail pipe to keep the rear end tidy and a bmc style air filter.

1st things 1st, wheels...

i bought my steelies before i even had the polo gti, then decided to send them off to widewheels too and asked them to make them 8 and 9" wide for me Smile

this was the result after 9 long weeks and a lot of angry fone calls to wide wheels

cudnt help myself and had a little fitting to the car once i got it!

at this point i was thinking oh crap, they r too wdie! haha

my wheels were a little less round wen they returned back to me thanks to them being sent back in shrink wrap...luckily my dad was here to help me out and we took a hammer to the lips to make them round agen and i sanded the lips to make sure they were spot on before sending off to the powder coaters.

after powder...the finish was mint, i was so happy with them!

next job for them was tyres, i went for 195/45/14's all round for a nice stretch Smile
the 8...

and the 9 Very Happy

the polo after i got my coilies on and lowerd it on the standard gti bbs's

then i tried my wheels on the car, defo needed more lows

sorted out the lows and unleashed the polo at gti spring fest, got a really good reaction from pple as i had kept wat i was doing secret from most pple in my club and i had organised the club stand for the day hehe. even to my suprise i got not 1 but 2 piks in pvw from spring fest Very Happy

heres a few other show photo's

DC09

rollin shot, on the way to E38

managed to get onto HIC insurance stand at E38 just behind the show n shine judging tent Smile

a pic from ADK's meet

still needs more lows at the back!

decided to refurb another set of wheels (SSR's) that i had been running on my 6n polo for about 3 years, they'd gotten pretty shitty.

got a friend to split them for me as the bolts had all corroded and he ended cutting them off in the end, he had refurbed them before i bought them off him so i knew they were in good hands. i sent the lips off for a good polish as they were rather pitted.

cumming on nicely

as the dishes were being polished i sent my centres away to be powder coated in the same cream as the bandies, agen an awsome finish Smile

gave my polisher a center so his friend could make me a set of center caps as i never had any for them. very happy with how they came out, nice little cones Smile

as the show season was over and winter was on its way so needed to get the bandies off, decided to power coat my bbs black as they were in a state.

really didnt like them on the car so i got to work with another set of wheels i had bought a while back for £50 (le castellets) they were rather kurbed and not just on the rim. i sent them of for powder coating as i was going to get my dad to skim them, got fed up of waiting so i took matters into my own hands with the help of my other half we sanded and filed down the rims to get rid of the kurbing and filled and painted them in satin black.

finally got them all finished and rubbed the lips down

order myself some 155/55/14's for them, got them fitted monday and fitted my wheels to the car, i liked them, a lot!

then today as it was sunny agen i got some more lows on the go, suprised myself as ive never lowerd my car before and i managed to do it myself with my other half near by wen i got stuck or needed advice, lowered the front down 10mm more and the rear another 20mm. i think it sits much better now, i measured up for spacers so these will be on order pretty soon.

heres how she is sitting now,

thanks for ur comments guys!

i havent had any arch work to run the 9's but i didnt run it this low on them but i do set my coilies to the hardest setting. as i was lowering it more the other day i noticed that the bandies have been rolling my arches for me on the rear lol, its going in the body shop but im unsure of getting my arches flared to acomodate the bandies more as i like to run lots of different wheels and dont want to limit my self to only running my bandies or other 9's out back... i was only gna have a very subtle flare anyway just to cover the 10mm of tread that pokes out, wat do u guys think?

as you say you like to change wheels.

so if you flared too much your smaller wheels will then be lossed in the wide arches.

i would at least have them rolled to save future damage.

do you have any ideas how far they can be flared before losing the original lines???

yeah i have quite a few wheels and i like to try n use them all, im going to have to use quite a big spacer on the rear as it is with the castellets and probs the same for the SSRs, i think if i space them too much they will look stupid from behind.

rolling the arches may crack the paint? so im guessing it wud be a good idea to do this before a trip to the paint shop.

wen i spoke to the man at the body shop he sed he cud do a nice subtle flare wen i told him id only need about 10mm or so but he hasnt seen the car with the bandies on yet. running the bandies just makes me a bit nervous as they do poke quite a bit and i no some of the police can be arsey about the whole thing..

ive not seen any polo's that have had any arch flaring done so its hard to guage wat its going to look like.

id imagine 10mm wont be that noticable but it will cover tread as you say

yeah theres a good chance of cracking the paint when rolling the arches.

i wonder if heating them up stops the cracking?

cool, thanks for the tips, if i was gna roll em i think id do it b4 a visit to the body shop neway just incase Smile

still think i might go for the flare tho as i love running my bandies to shows but didnt feel i had enuf lows on the rear last year and like i sed it will hide that little bit of tread. heres a pik of how the bandies were sitting last yr so u can see wat im trying to say

little spacer update, fitted my 20mm hubcentric spacers today, here is a pic of wat it looked like before..

and then i put both spacers on 1 side to see if i wanted to go bigger on the rear

decided that i will get a pair of 25mm spacers for the rears but in the meantime ive slapped the 20's on the rear Smile

comments welcome as always Smile
