Due to recent water hose failures on my mk2 I have decided to replace the lot with silicone hoses.

Today I decided to remove all the coolant hoses to check there condition. I found that four of the coolant hoses including one recently changed had gone brittle inside, looked fine from the outside!

Never had this problem before and am wandering if it was due too using summer coolant this time.

For a while I wondered if I had a head gasket problem due to hoses bursting but carried out a few ...

We are having a bit of a running problem with my brothers Passat 1.8 20v (APT engine)

Basically it seems to be running a bit on the rough side, and hesitates pretty bad when you try and accelerate, and you get a bit of popping and stuff from the exhaust when you rev it...

It isnt throwing up any fault codes, and have tried anything simple that we can think of...

Only thing I did notice was that whilst going through all the measuring blocks when we got to Group 6, for lambda ...

hi peeps, as most of you'll know, i've been converting my T4 TD into a 1.9TDi, and have had it completed now for over a month, and been using it daily, with no problems apart from the odd spot (bucket) of oil on the driveway :-)

however, this morning, whilst crusing about at around 45mph in 5th, it made a funny noise, and stopped pulling!

I couldnt get her started, but noticed it sounded like it lacked compression, so i gave up and got rescued by flux rescue :-)

Just as I am sorting out the Polo, have started having a bit of trouble with one of our T4's...

Its a 2L Petrol one, and seems to keep fouling the plugs really badly, seems to really drink the petrol more than normal, and you get a bit of black smoke from the exhaust, so seems to be running rather rich!

This van is 1992 one, so is before they stuck a cat on, and seems to look like the injection from a Digifant Mk2 8v.

I am guessing its the cold start valve, is this just switched ...

I have chatted to a couple of peeps about this...

I have a 55 reg Polo 1.4 FSi and am having a few running problems with it, basically when its at idle you can feel a missfire, as the whole car does a quick shudder every 10 seconds or so.

When I do the diagnostics on it, it comes back with missfire on cylinders 2 and 3... Had done all the easy stuff, new genuine spark plugs, new coils, new coolant temp sender, but didnt make the slightest difference.

I decided to bite the bullet ...

I got problems! My digi wont start, she will turn over but doesnt fire up. The last couple of days i have noticed a lack of power, and when I put my foot down its more like its holding back than going forward!

So I go to start it the other morning, and it turns over, fires up for about 30 seconds, sounds like its firing on a bout 2 cylinders because its making a horrible noise and shaking about so I turn it off, then it doesnt start again.

Now its got fuel pressure all the way ...

If i was to have my 1.8T custom mapped then after have an aftermarket exhaust installed (miltek cat back), would there be much power difference between that and having the exhaust fitted before mapping?

I only ask as if i go to Jabbasport rr day then i will get either 1 or the other (im hearing 10% discount ) as cant afford both.

If there isnt going to be much difference in power when fitted before or after then il have it mapped on the day if they'l do it.

Any ideas?!

Pressure Relief Valve on a 1.6 Turbo Diesel GTD/SB

On our Matt’s Caddy, he has fitted a adjustable boost controller

As standard a 1.6 Turbo Diesel produces 0.8 bar boost

He can now get 1.0 bar……..but when he tries for more, the pressure relief valve lifts (pictured below)

Can the pressure relief valve be safely removed???

Or…..is a higher rated pressure relief valve available???
